Posted: Thu, 13 Dec 2012 10:12

6 schools took part in the Level 3 qualifying competition at GreenTowerson the 15th November. In the round robin format where each school would play 5 games to determine the winning school 3 teams were setting the pace and had each won 3 games after the first 3 matches. A narrow 7-6 victory over Sheepy Magna kept Westfield Juniors on course for winning the title but they would need to beat Kirby Muxloe in their last game who also remained unbeaten. Holliers Walk and Mercenfeld were battling to avoid the wooden spoon before drawing their game 4-4 to end with 1 point a piece. Barwell Juniors with a couple of victories finished in 4th place with Sheepy ending up third. In what proved to be the deciding game Kirby Muxloe took the title winning 9-4 to edge Westfield Juniors into 2nd. Best of luck to Kirby Muxloe who will represent the Network in the Summer Games Championships in June.

Year 5/6 Tag Rugby

Posted: Thu, 13 Dec 2012 10:11

Four teams progressed through to the Level 3 qualifying competition held at BosworthAcademyon the 1st November to compete for the chance to represent the Hinckley & Bosworth School Sport & Physical Activity Network at the Level 3 competition in May. With a strong tradition of success in tag rugby the competition was always going to be strong with school club links particularly evident in these participating schools. With two of the pool matches played it was still impossible to tell who would progress through to the final and who would end up playing off for third and fourth place with 3 tries or less being the difference between the teams in most matches.

Lots of skilful play was on show despite the wet conditions and the two teams who consistently turned possession into points were Dixie Grammar and Burbage Juniors. In the final it was another close affair but with some excellent support play on show Dixieran out victors 8-6. In the 3rd and 4th playoff Elizabeth Woodville beat St Margarets 9-7.

As a development to the competitions this year each school involved was provided with the opportunity to have a couple of rowers in school prior to the competition for a couple of days to organise practice sessions and find their best team.

At KS3 nine schools were competing for the title of overall champions with teams of four boys and four girls from each school involved. A magnificent atmosphere was created with a hall full of participants and supporters cheering everyone on to give it their all as rowers took it in turns to row for up to a minute ,seeing how they were doing against their competitors on the big screen.

The winner of the male individual title rowed at an amazing pace of 1:30.6 per 500m covering 331m in 60 seconds; with the winning female covering 282m at a pace of 1:46.1 per 500m. Year 4/5 Quicksticks Hockey 6/12/12

Posted: Thu, 13 Dec 2012 10:02

5 schools took part in this competition having progressed from their family competitions as winning schools. Comfortable victories in the two opening games saw Dixie Grammar and All Saints Sapcote set the standard. A very tight match between Manorfield and Kirby Muxloe was decided by some very close calls on shots from inside / outside the circle ending in a 2-1 victory for Kirby Muxloe. Dixie versus Kirby proved to be one of the best games on the night asDixiewith individually talented players took on a well organised Kirby Muxloe side; the game ending 1-1. The most exciting game of the night followed with All Saints and Kirby involved in a 7 goal thriller with All Saints coming out on top 4-3. Special mention to Thornton who as a small school played extremely well ; especially considering the absence of their two best players due to club commitments outside of school. In the endDixieretained the trophy winning 3 games and drawing 1 with All Saints second with three victories and two losses. Manorfield despite not winning a game on the evening were recognised as the school team which best demonstrated the School Games Value of Teamwork and were given wristbands and stickers to take away. Dixie will now go on to represent Hinckley & Bosworth SSPAN at the summer Games Championships in June where fingers crossed they will improve on their bronze medal performance from last year.
