Work begins on football pitch improvements

Posted: Thu, 26 Jul 2012 10:20

WORK to improve the football pitches on Hinckley's Richmond Park is due to start next week (Monday 23 July), after Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council secured grant funding from the FA Football Foundation.

The work will include the installation of a network of land drains across the football pitches, connecting to a soakaway area on the northern part of the site. The pitches will then be levelled and re-seeded.

The work will ensure that the site can provide high quality football pitches for teams in the future, and to improve facilities for grass roots football working closely with the Hinckley Club For Young People.

The work is scheduled to start on 23 July (weather permitting) and should last for approximately 12 weeks. Unfortunately the pitches will not be ready for use during the coming football season, but should provide quality pitches from the 2013 season onwards.

Although the area incorporating the football pitches will be fenced off for the duration of the works, access to the play area and multi-use-games-area will be retained as will the footpath around the perimeter of the site.

Councillor Bill Crooks, the council's Executive Member for Open Spaces, said:

"We are pleased that with the support of the Football Foundation we can now carry out drainage works to provide high quality football pitches at Richmond Park. This will complement the new state-of-the-art Hinckley Club for Young People on the site and will provide excellent facilities for both senior and junior football in the future."
