Let’s Champion Volunteers in Angling!

The Angling Trust in the East Midlands is looking to train motivated, experienced anglers as Angling Trust Volunteer Champions to support a national Lets Fish initiative. You don't need to be an award winning professional angler, just be motivated to help get more anglers on the bank more often. You may already be organising local informal competitions or keen to create more opportunities for people to go fishing

James Roche, Regional Development Officer in the East Midlands commented; "Angling like many other sports is heavily reliant on it's volunteers. As a result the Angling Trust is pleased to announce details of the Volunteer Champion training to recognise existing volunteers and encourage new anglers to give something back to the sport".

The free training will touch on aspects including risk assessment, health and safety, working with disabled anglers & issues involved in facilitating a safe angling session. Upon completion on the training, all participants will receive a free branded clothing bundle including waterproof jacket, cap & polo shirt as well as free Angling Trust membership. All Volunteer Champions will be given the full support of your local Regional Development Officer to plan, organise and promote group angling sessions that are safe, equitable and great fun.

So if you would like to give something back to your sport and help get more people fishing more often, we want to hear from you.

Contact Regional Officer James Roche on 07791786251 or at for more information. There is only a limited number of spaces available so be sure to get in touch as soon as possible.

Please note that this isn't a coaching qualification and all volunteers champions will be working with existing anglers. An example session would be organising a weekly informal match for anglers to come along to.
