RED January

1st - 31st January 2022

RED January is a nationwide movement that exists to empower everyone to move for their mental health during the winter, a time of year where as a nation we tend to be less active, experience low moods and increased depressive symptoms. The idea is to move every day during January, to beat the winter blues away.

Whether you walk, run, cycle, swim, or choose your favourite fitness activity, set your goal and enjoy support from the RED community. Check out the links to these activities for how you can get moving in Hinckley and Bosworth, or visit the Get Active search engine to find your local physical activity opportunities.

Veganuary

Veganuary is a non-profit organisation that encourages people worldwide to try vegan for January and beyond. During the 2021 campaign, more than 500,000 people took our pledge to try a vegan diet, while more than 825 new vegan products and menu options were launched in our key campaign countries.

Throughout the year, Veganuary encourages and supports people and businesses alike to move to a plant-based diet as a way of protecting the environment, preventing animal suffering, and improving the health of millions of people.

A healthy balanced diet is so important to keep us strong and full of energy ready for physical activity. Remember, what works for you might not work for somebody else, but there is lots of support out there if you want to try something different!

National Obesity Awareness Week

10th - 16th January 2022

By 2050 as much as 50% of the UK population could be obese, at a cost of £50 billion a year.

This awareness week was set up to draw attention to the issue of obesity and encourage people to keep active and eat a healthy diet to avoid becoming obese. Obesity can cause many health complications such as higher cholesterol, high blood pressure, joint and muscle pain, increased risk of heart attacks, increased risk of diabetes, increased risk of some cancers. Therefore, by understanding how we can all be a bit healthier and a bit fitter, we can avoid the 2050 prediction.

One place to start is increasing our physical activity levels. Hinckley and Bosworth has a wide range of physical activity opportunities suited to various levels of ability and age across different sports clubs, parks and open spaces. Use the Get Active search engine today to find where you can get moving a little more.

Equally, visit our Active Champions page to get inspired by local individuals who have got moving for their health!
