When training sessions were cancelled back in March, the way that Hinckley Running Club pulled together was quite simply extraordinary! The club's committee started issuing daily posts on the club's private Facebook group where members could share their exercise plans. More than 160 posts were issued which included a different question every day from sharing your worst running picture to your favourite cake. These have started again during the second lockdown with daily challenges being set. We've also had many running challenges - from speed sessions and virtual races to road sign challenges (where members spell out a set word using street signs), as well as a fundraising 'Magic Run' event! And it's not just running - one of our members held virtual kettlebells home workout classes, while our President brought us several virtual quizzes. Members also helped the community with socially-distanced litter picks (when Government guidelines allowed). Throughout all of this, the club's mental health ambassadors have also been providing advice and support. Also, Shawn has made sure that all the juniors at the club stayed active, by setting weekly virtual challenges. The club committee's efforts to make all of the above (and more) happen over the past eight months - along with our members taking on the challenges, sharing photos and getting involved in any way they can - has helped many people both mentally and physically during what has been a very unusual, difficult and challenging time for us all. I know I speak for many when I say how proud I am to be one of the 182 members of the wonderful HRC!
